Target data

Background This gene encodes an enzyme that belongs to the 3'5'-cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family. Members of this family catalyze hydrolysis of the cyclic nucleotides, cyclic adenosine monophosphate and cyclic guanosine monophosphate, to the corresponding nucleoside 5'-monophosphates. The enzyme encoded by this gene regulates proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells, and neointimal hyperplasia. This enzyme also plays a role in pathological vascular remodeling by regulating the stability of growth factor receptors, such as PDGF-receptor-beta.
Gene ID 5137
Gene name PDE1C
Swiss Q14123
Synonym PDE1C,Hcam3,cam-PDE 1C,hCam-3,cam-PDE1C,PDE1C Rabbit pAb
Expression Isoform PDE1C2 is present in the heart and brain and, at lower levels in the lung, liver, kidney and skeletal muscle (PubMed:8557689). Isoform PDE1C1 is expressed in the heart and brain and, at lower levels in lung (PubMed:8557689). Also expressed at low levels in uterus and testis (PubMed:8557689).
Functions Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase with a dual-specificity for the second messengers cAMP and cGMP, which are key regulators of many important physiological processes. Has a high affinity for both cAMP and cGMP.
