Target data

Background Vasorin is a Type I membrane protein, which is predominantly expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells in a developmentally regulated pattern. The expression level of Vasorin can be down regulated during vessel repair after arterial injury. Vasorin binds to transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) and attenuates TGF-β signaling in vitro.
Gene ID 114990
Gene name VASN
Swiss Q6EMK4
Synonym VASN,SLITL2,vasorin,VASN Rabbit pAb,Protein slit-like 2
Expression Expressed at highest levels in aorta, at intermediate levels in kidney and placenta and at lowest levels in brain, heart, liver, lung and skeletal muscle. Within the aorta, the strongest expression is found in the tunica media of the proximal ascending aorta, the descending thoracic aorta, the abdominal aorta and the coronary arteries. Within the kidney, expression is found in the interstitial cells.
Functions May act as an inhibitor of TGF-beta signaling.
