Applications and conditions

Where to start

These starting conditions come from the recommended dilution, validation images, and general assay practice. Titrate for your sample and detection system.

WB Conditions for WB
Recommended dilution 1:500 - 1:2000
Suggested sample / positive control Rat brain
Key conditions Use a fresh lysate, incubate at the recommended dilution, and check the predicted and observed molecular weight
Expected result Expected signal or band near 160KDa
Controls Include a positive sample, a negative sample, and a secondary or isotype control
IF/ICC Conditions for IF/ICC
Recommended dilution 1:50 - 1:200
Suggested sample / positive control Rat brain
Key conditions Optimize fixation, permeabilization, and blocking, and include a secondary-only control
Expected result Expected fluorescence follows the target localization
Controls Include a positive sample, a negative sample, and a secondary or isotype control

Target data

Background This gene encodes a member of the unc-51-like serine/threonine kinase (STK) family. Members of this protein family play a role in neuronal growth and endocytosis. The encoded protein is likely involved in neurite branching, neurite elongation and neuronal migration. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) indicate an association of variations in this gene with blood pressure and hypertension. Sequence variations in this gene may also be be associated with psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Pseudogenes associated with this gene have been identified and are located on chromosome 15.
Gene ID 54986
Gene name ULK4
Swiss Q96C45
Synonym ULK4,FAM7C1,REC01035,ULK4 Rabbit pAb,Unc-51-like kinase 4
Expression Expressed in the brain, mainly in postmitotic neurons, including GABAergic neurons, but not in astrocytes (at protein level).
Functions May be involved in the remodeling of cytoskeletal components, such as alpha-tubulin, and in this way regulates neurite branching and elongation, as well as cell motility.
