Target data

Background Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels represent the most complex class of voltage-gated ion channels from both functional and structural standpoints. Their diverse functions include regulating neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume. This gene encodes a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, subfamily G. This member functions as a modulatory subunit. The gene has strong expression in brain. Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been found in normal and cancerous tissues.
Gene ID 93107
Gene name KCNG4
Swiss Q8TDN1
Synonym KCNG4,KV6.3,KV6.4,KCNG4 Rabbit pAb,Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily G member 4,Voltage-gated potassium channel subunit Kv6.3,Voltage-gated potassium channel subunit Kv6.4,KCNG3
Expression Highly expressed in brain, and at lower levels in liver, small intestine and colon.
Functions Potassium channel subunit that does not form functional channels by itself. Can form functional heterotetrameric channels with KCNB1; modulates the delayed rectifier voltage-gated potassium channel activation and deactivation rates of KCNB1 (PubMed:19074135).
