Target data

Background This gene encodes a protein with limited similarity to L-amino acid oxidase which contains the conserved amino acids thought to be involved in catalysis and binding of flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) cofactor. The expression of this gene can be induced by interleukin 4 in B cells, however, expression of transcripts containing the first two exons of the upstream gene is found in other cell types. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Gene ID 259307
Gene name IL4I1
Swiss Q96RQ9
Synonym IL4I1,FIG1,LAAO,LAO,IL4I1 Rabbit pAb,Interleukin-4-induced protein 1,Protein Fig-1
Expression Primarily found in immune tissues, with the highest expression in lymph nodes and spleen (PubMed:12031486, PubMed:12446450). Present in germinal center macrophages and inflammatory myeloid cells and antigen-presenting cells (at protein level) (PubMed:17356132). Also present in spermatozoa (at protein level) (PubMed:25767141). Highly expressed in primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, a specific subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (PubMed:12446450). Expressed by neoplastic cells of several B-cell lymphomas and by tumor-associated macrophages (PubMed:19436310).
Functions Lysosomal L-amino-acid oxidase with highest specific activity with phenylalanine. May play a role in lysosomal antigen processing and presentation (By similarity).
