Target data

Background This gene encodes a member of the GalNAc polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases. These enzymes catalyze the first step in the synthesis of mucin-type oligosaccharides. These proteins transfer GalNAc from UDP-GalNAc to either serine or threonine residues of polypeptide acceptors. The protein encoded by this locus may have increased catalytic activity toward glycosylated peptides compared to activity toward non-glycosylated peptides.
Gene ID 55568
Gene name GALNT10
Swiss Q86SR1
Synonym GALNT10,GALNACT10,PPGALNACT10,PPGANTASE10,GALNT10 Rabbit pAb,Polypeptide GalNAc transferase 10,Protein-UDP acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 10,UDP-GalNAc:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 10
Expression Widely expressed. Expressed at high level in small intestine, and at intermediate levels in stomach, pancreas, ovary, thyroid gland and spleen. Weakly expressed in other tissues.
Functions Catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis, the transfer of an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to a serine or threonine residue on the protein receptor. Has activity toward Muc5Ac and EA2 peptide substrates.
