Target data

Background GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain where it acts at GABA receptors, which are ligand-gated chloride channels. GABRR1 is a member of the rho subunit family. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Gene ID 2569
Gene name GABRR1
Swiss P24046
Synonym GABRR1,GABRR1 Rabbit pAb,GABA(A) receptor subunit rho-1,GABA(C) receptor
Expression Highly expressed in the retina and in a lesser extent in brain, lung and thymus.
Functions GABA, the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain, mediates neuronal inhibition by binding to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor and opening an integral chloride channel. Rho-1 GABA receptor could play a role in retinal neurotransmission.
