Applications and conditions

Where to start

These starting conditions come from the recommended dilution, validation images, and general assay practice. Titrate for your sample and detection system.

WB Conditions for WB
Recommended dilution 1:500 - 1:1000
Suggested sample / positive control SH-SY5Y,293T,HepG2,MCF7,Mouse brain
Key conditions Use a fresh lysate, incubate at the recommended dilution, and check the predicted and observed molecular weight
Expected result Expected signal or band near 150-170kDa
Controls Include a positive sample, a negative sample, and a secondary or isotype control

Target data

Background This gene encodes adenylyl cyclase 3 which is a membrane-associated enzyme and catalyzes the formation of the secondary messenger cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). This protein appears to be widely expressed in various human tissues and may be involved in a number of physiological and pathophysiological metabolic processes. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Gene ID 109
Gene name ADCY3
Swiss O60266
Synonym ADCY3,AC-III,AC3,ADCY3 Rabbit pAb,ATP pyrophosphate-lyase 3,Adenylate cyclase type III,Adenylate cyclase,olfactive type,Adenylyl cyclase 3,KIAA0511
Expression Detected in zona glomerulosa and zona fasciculata in the adrenal gland (at protein level) (PubMed:11549699). Expressed in brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung, pancreas islets, placenta, and skeletal muscle (PubMed:9920776). Detected in testis (PubMed:15705663).
Functions Catalyzes the formation of the signaling molecule cAMP in response to G-protein signaling. Participates in signaling cascades triggered by odorant receptors via its function in cAMP biosynthesis. Required for the perception of odorants. Required for normal sperm motility and normal male fertility. Plays a role in regulating insulin levels and body fat accumulation in response to a high fat diet.
