研究背景 This gene encodes a C2H2 type zinc-finger protein by its similarity to the mouse Bcl11a/Evi9 protein. The corresponding mouse gene is a common site of retroviral integration in myeloid leukemia, and may function as a leukemia disease gene, in part, through its interaction with BCL6. During hematopoietic cell differentiation, this gene is down-regulated. It is possibly involved in lymphoma pathogenesis since translocations associated with B-cell malignancies also deregulates its expression. Multiple transcript variants encoding several different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

组织表达 Expressed at high levels in brain, spleen thymus, bone marrow and testis. Expressed in CD34-positive myeloid precursor cells, B-cells, monocytes and megakaryocytes. Expression is tightly regulated during B-cell development.; [Isoform 1]: Expressed in fetal and adult brain, and in the plasmacytoid dendritic cell.
功能 Transcription factor associated with the BAF SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex (By similarity). Repressor of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) level (PubMed:26375765). Involved in brain development (PubMed:27453576). Functions as a myeloid and B-cell proto-oncogene. May play important roles in leukemogenesis and hematopoiesis. Essential factor in lymphopoiesis required for B-cell formation in fetal liver. May function as a modulator of the transcriptional repression activity of ARP1 (By similarity).
